Nick Saint
| AUDITIONS for the World Premier of NICK SAINT – A Christmas Musical. Did you ever want to create a role and be in the original cast? This is a unique opportunity to fulfill every actor’s dream. Auditions for the world premier of a major new musical comedy, Nick Saint, will take place at Canyon Ridge Auditorium, on Sunday September 28 at 2:00 pm and Monday September 29 at 6:30 pm. Callbacks are on the following Sunday, October 5 at 2:00. Rehearsals will begin on Friday October 17 and run nightly until performances on Dec 11, 12, and 14. Of course, not all cast members will be required for all rehearsals until the first two weeks of December. This is a delightfully funny Christmas story for the entire family revolving around an old man who claims he is Santa Claus, the crippled girl and her friends who are recruited to help him prove it, the tabloid newspaper who champions their cause, the love story between a reporter and the girl’s mother, and the slimy rival reporter who tries to prove them all wrong. There are 32 roles to be filled in this show, including 8 adult leads, 3 young leads, 8 women chorus, 8 men chorus, and 5 child chorus roles. The chorus roles are quite extensive, including featured acting parts and songs solos, and are a wonderful opportunity to develop a number of quirky characters. All ages and types are welcome. There are 17 musical numbers in this show so singing is required for all actors. This is not a heavy dance show but dance ability is a plus. Strong comedic character acting is an absolute must for all roles except Barbara, Benny, and Jenny who need strong dramatic acting skills. Canyon Ridge is located at 6200 W. Lone Mountain Road, on the corner of Lone Mountain and Jones Blvd. This is community theater: there is no salary just a great opportunity to do some completely original work, perhaps be featured on the original cast album, and on the promotional video that will later be submitted to Broadway producers. Come to audition prepared to sing one ballad and one “up” song. Provide tracks or piano music. CAST BREAKDOWN Nick Saint - A kind, elderly man who claims he is Santa Claus. He doesn’t look like Santa but is as charming as they come. Must be a strong singer and actor. (Lead) Barbara Taylor – (Mid 30s) A young, attractive, single mother. She is emotionally fragile since her husband was killed by a drunk driver, but discovers a new love for life. (Lead.) Benny Bigalow – (Mid 30s) A mild-mannered newspaperman – kind, a bit shy, but very sincere and absolutely likable. Mid-thirties. (Lead.) Lance Boyle – (Any age 20-50) The bad guy. A creepy, self-centered tabloid reporter. An outrageous, comic character. (Think Jim Carey with a terrific singing voice.) (Lead) Jenny Taylor - Barbara’s daughter. About ten years old, she starts out very angry to be stuck in a wheelchair, but as the story progresses her new belief in the magic of Christmas sets her free. A strong young actress is needed for this lead role. Danny S. - A ten year old, skeptical, wise-cracking kid. Moderate singing required but great acting is imperative. (Lead.) Bartholomew Leigh Sheffield III - An overly intelligent, polite, ten year old – in other words: a nerd. Could be English. Moderate singing required but great acting is imperative. (Lead.) Mr. Stapleton - The cigar-chomping Editor of the National Busybody, a sleazy tabloid newspaper. He is loud and gruff in the tradition of Spiderman’s J.J. Jamison, Danny DeVito as Louie DePalma in Taxi. (Lead.) Bernard Slater – The owner and publisher of The National Busybody. Age 50+. Large and imposing at first, he turns out to be delightfully child-like in his enthusiasm. A John Goodman or Ed Asner type. (Featured role. One song.) Max Magee – (Any age 20-50) A friendly, enthusiastic television reporter. This role can be male or female. (Featured acting role, no solo singing.) Louie the Slime - A big, dumb professional thug – a guy who’s jacket size is bigger than his IQ. The bigger, the better! (Featured role. One duet with Lance.) The Chorus: (All ages 5-80) The quirky staff of the National Busybody, moms, dads, grandparents, kids, homeless people, newspaper sellers, angry Christmas shoppers, frazzled toy store employees, a Salvation Army person, policeman, cameraman, Scrooge, Jimmy Stewart, Bing Crosby, Ralphie, the cutest little girl ever, a grumpy store manager, a life-sized Teddy Bear, and more. Not just normal people but great characters. For a complete synopsis of the show, rehearsal schedule, script sides, or other information go to www.NickSaintMusical.com.
