The Interstate Musical Theatre Project is launching a national competition to create brand-new musicals written specifically as part of a national series of musicals exploring American themes and cultures. Scott Guy & Andrea Press, prods. at the Academy for New Musical Theatre (ANMT) in L.A. The goal is for the ANMT to provide three workshops for each of the projects which qualify, perhaps as many as “50 states, 50 musicals.” The winner will receive a $10,000 prize and a concert reading; all entrants will receive table readings and dramaturgical feedback from ANMT staff, half-way through Act One, at the conclusion of Act One, and upon final draft. Participating musicals pay a $6,000 participation fee to ANMT to provide actors, pianists, rehearsal space, music directors, digitzing/uploading, camera rental, tape, broadband fees, administrative fees, copies & dramaturgs. There are no additional fees. The project is subsidized in part by the Academy for New Musical Theatre (estimated value is $12,000 for actors, music director, dramatur, rehearsal space, etc.).
