| WI, ‘THE SOUND OF MUSIC’ The Phipps Center for the Arts (prod.) is casting The Sound of Music. Robert Neu, dir. Rehearsals begin Sept. 8. Runs Nov. 7-30. Seeking-Maria: 20s, light mezzo/soprano, pretty, sweet, sincere, naïve when we first meet her but grows up quickly, LEAD; Captain von Trapp: 40s, bass baritone, aristocratic, wealthy, confident, handsome, charming, stern, used to having his way; Mother Abbess: 50s, strong mezzo with a solid top, wise, kind but authoritative, no-nonsense; Nuns: sopranos and mezzos, variety of ages; Elsa: 30s, soprano or mezzo, wealthy, beautiful, very chic, a brittle personality; Max: 30s-40s, baritone, big personality, takes nothing seriously, a loveable opportunist; Rolf: “17 going on 18,” light baritone, attractive, trying to find his place in the world, insecure; Leisl: “16 going on 17,” soprano, Captain von Trapp’s eldest daughter, eager to be regarded as an adult, pretty, charming; Friedrich: 14; Louisa: 13; Kurt: 10; Brigitta: 9; Marta: 7; Gretl: 5; Franz: the Captain’s butler, non-singing role; Frau Schmidt: the Captain’s housekeeper, non-singing role; Auditions will be held Aug. 18-20, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at he Phipps Center for the Arts, 109 Locust St., Hudson, WI.
