The Department of Theatre at the University of Southern Maine invites applicants for a full-time, professional staff position of Theatre Technical Director beginning September 2008. Primarily responsible for the construction and mounting of all Department productions as well as oversight and supervision of the construction and mounting of student SPA productions. Also responsible for the maintenance of the scene shop and related equipment, storage facilities, as well as the two theatre spaces housed within Russell Hall. This position requires a highly motivated individual with specialized theatre construction and rigging training as well as strong organizational and interpersonal communication skills. The Technical Director teaches Stagecraft Practicum and supervises numerous work-study students. Design opportunities are possible upon request. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 1 year experience in professional or university theatre scenic design or set construction environment or relevant area; or 5 years equivalent professional experience. Minimum 1 year experience in higher education environment and 2 years supervisory experience in a relevant area. Preferred: Computer literacy including competency in CAD software. This position is contingent upon budgetary approval and availability of funding. Salary commensurate with experience.
