WOMEN’S HIV PREVENTION PROJECT
| This video production is a central part of a unique project to address HIV risk reduction in young urban African American and Latina women through the use of soap opera videos. We will be producing twelve 20-minute chapters of this soap opera stories about four women and their male partners. This is a scripted drama, but presents itself in the style of a documentary. The script itself was drawn from women’s workshops and written by a diverse group of writers based at Rutgers University - Newark. This work was funded by the National Institutes of Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health. The current production is funded by the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey. Dr Rachel Jones is the Principal Investigator of this project. She is a faculty member at the College of Nursing at Rutgers. This is not a typical overly dramatic soap opera or telenovela, as seen in TV. It’s more subtle and natural. We are looking for actors who can truly take on a character. Some of this work was produced as a pilot project a two years ago, which can be viewed at: http://www.stophiv.newark.rutgers.edu/ • Auditions will be Tuesday evening, August 26, at Rutgers University, Newark campus, and possibly other times as needed.
